Where These Exchange Rates Come From
This currency converter integrates keyless Multiple APIs to retrieve reference exchange rates sourced from the European Central Bank (ECB) and other major financial institutions. Three routes are tried in order — the Frankfurter API, its mirror, then our own server reading the ECB's XML feed directly — so a single endpoint going down does not take the tool with it. Whichever route answers, the figures are re-based to US dollars before they reach the calculator.
Reference rates of this kind carry one property worth understanding: they are published on a daily cycle, not streamed. The ECB sets its rates once per working day at around 16:00 Central European Time and publishes nothing at weekends or on TARGET closing days. Rates like these are meant for accounting, invoicing, customs and expense claims rather than live trading. A bank or card issuer adds its own spread on top, so the amount that actually lands in an account will differ from the figure shown here.
Fetched rates are stored in your browser, which is what lets the converter keep working offline or on a poor connection. If it has never reached a live source it falls back to a baseline table shipped with the app — fine for rough arithmetic, but check the rate indicator above before trusting it for anything that matters.
