Choosing The Right QR Code Type
A QR code is only encoded text. What makes a phone offer to join a network, save a contact or open a message draft is the prefix that text carries, and that is what the type selector controls. Choose Wi-Fi Network Setup and the code carries a WIFI record a camera reads as credentials; choose Full Contact Details and it carries a vCard the phone offers to add to the address book. Encode the same information as plain text and the phone will simply show it as a string.
The practical difference between the two contact options is density. A full vCard holds name, organisation, title, phone, email, address and website, which produces a busy code that needs a clean print and a steady camera. The partial version keeps only the essentials, giving a sparser pattern that scans reliably at business-card size or from a screen across a desk. The same trade-off applies to the inventory and share-list types, which grow quickly as you add rows.
Three habits make the difference between a code that works and one that frustrates people. Keep the encoded content short, since every extra character adds modules and shrinks each one at a fixed print size — shorten a long URL before encoding it. Leave a clear quiet zone of empty space around the finished pattern, because readers use it to find the code's edges. Preserve strong dark-on-light contrast and avoid inverting the colours, which defeats many scanners outright. Print at roughly 2 cm across or larger for anything handheld, and test on more than one phone before committing a code to a label run.
